For this project I thought about the things that motivate me the most, so I looked to nature for inspiration. I wanted to create something that resembled the feeling you get when you see a massive mountain range. I love to go skiing and nothing gets me more pumped up than seeing the incredible views from the mountains. I came up with this abstract design that has the “motivate” sign encased with trees stacked on top of each other to give them depth, and make it look like a forest that you could walk right into. This continues onto the small wall to further this feeling of vastness and wonder. This approach really worked out for me, because the client wanted the design to encapsulate the magical feeling of entering Narnia. In the novel, when Lucy enters through the wardrobe, she finds herself in the middle of The Great Woods. She wanders through in amazement as the forest seems to be endless, which is not unlike what I had for my own concept. With that in mind, I sprinkled a bit of surrealism into the design while staying true to the abstract concept that I began with. The trees are modeled after Pine trees, which are known as a symbol of strength, rebirth, and a bright and hopeful future. The closeness of the Pines also signifies community, as well as friendliness which are important concepts to the client’s business. The waves up top stand as the skyline, which symbolizes other, much larger mountains in the distance, just waiting to be explored. Just like the trees, this movement wraps around to the other side, keeping the composition's momentum.
